Brothers Jaak and Andreas Tiik started ÖÖD in 2016 as a family business building mirror houses, and in 2018 added a hotel arm to operate them as guest stays.

Early projects went far beyond Estonia, to Iceland, California and Ghana, proving the design could handle very different climates. Today mirror houses stand in the Yucatan jungle in Mexico, the Green Mountains of Vermont, the Norwegian coast and many other places, and new locations are added every year.

Behind every building is a team with almost two decades of construction experience and a deep respect for the landscapes they build in.

Stays worth remembering

Mirror house guests are looking for something other than a standard hotel room: a break from routine that still feels grounded.

It is about switching off in order to reconnect, with nature, with the people you travel with and with yourself. Quiet luxury, focused on the experience.

Designed around the landscape

The idea was born in Estonia, a country more than half covered in forest, where the landscape itself invites you to slow down.

Each building reflects its surroundings rather than dominating them, so every location keeps its own character in every season and in any weather.

Real privacy

Locations are chosen for their seclusion, away from traffic and neighbours. Self check-in means guests may meet more wildlife than people during their stay.

Many stays are intentionally Wi-Fi free, so the soundtrack is birdsong rather than notifications.

How it started

Good ideas often come from a personal frustration, and this one did too.

Jaak and Andreas Tiik grew up exploring the rivers, bogs and forests of Estonia.

That childhood in one of Europe's most forested countries shaped everything they would later build.

On a weekend hike they looked for somewhere special to spend the night and found only ordinary hotels.

What they wanted was a place that kept them close to nature while still offering real comfort.

Dark, dated log cabins were not the answer, and they suspected plenty of other nature lovers felt the same.

So they designed their own: a small, comfortable building with walls of mirror glass that brings nature, privacy and rest together, and gives the hospitality industry a new kind of room.

Why reflective architecture?

Building less, seeing more

The idea behind mirror glass architecture is simple: instead of competing with the landscape, a building can reflect it. That means a light footprint on the ground, a view in every direction from inside, and a structure that changes colour with the seasons, green in summer, gold in autumn and white in winter.

Our approach

We focus on helping people turn a site into a place worth staying: understanding what the land offers, choosing the right building for the purpose, and guiding each project from the first enquiry to the day the keys are handed over. Every site is different, so every project starts with listening.
